Miniweb Shows Converged Interactive TV Experience at IPTV World Forum and MIPTV

London and Cannes demonstrations of converged Broadcast and Broadband entertainment that delivers new service and revenue models for TV device manufacturers, network operators, content owners, broadcasters and advertisers.

London, UK, March 2009 – Miniweb, the Interactive Service Provider that is enabling internet video, interactivity and targeted, web-style advertising on TV, will demonstrate its converged broadcast and broadband experience to a global audience at the upcoming IPTV World Forum and MIPTV exhibitions. The company will be showing its latest version of the Miniweb Platform at the shows in London (stand number 268) and Cannes (stand number G3.23).

The Miniweb Platform has been shortlisted in the Best Interactive Service/Application category at this year’s IPTV World Series Awards. Ian Valentine, Miniweb’s Chief Architect and Founder, has been invited to present ‘New web-style advertising models and interactivity for TV audiences’ on March 25th, the first day of the IPTV World Forum conference programme at 17.10. Ian will demonstrate how network operators, TV device manufacturers and content owners can benefit from and earn new revenues through interactive advertising and content distribution on the TV delivered through broadband connected, hybrid TV devices.

“We can tell from the significant interest we are receiving from TV network operators that broadband-enabled interactivity is becoming an integral and important part of the broadcast business mix. Momentum is rapidly building behind interactivity right now and we’re proud to be central to the delivery of a richer, more engaging TV experience,” said Andrew Carver, CEO, Miniweb Interactive.

“In the UK there is a lot of discussion centred around Project Canvas and I am excited that we will be showing visitors to IPTV World Forum and MIPTV how the Miniweb Platform converges broadcast and broadband content and solves the interoperability problem of deploying content across multiple networks regardless of device type. Whereas Project Canvas is primarily intended to be a device specification for a subset of the UK TV market, our platform includes the commercial framework required to globally deliver sustainable, converged broadcast and broadband ecosystems, for pay TV and free-to-air deployments, enabling each player in the value chain to derive economic benefit from all interactive initiatives, including Project Canvas,” concludes Carver.

Miniweb’s platform addresses business and consumer needs for converged broadcast and broadband entertainment with personalised, web-style interactivity for TV viewers. The Platform enables network, media and TV device companies to benefit from the global growth in broadband enabled TV services. This results in a richer viewer experience by providing access to internet video, personalisation, social networking and web-style recommendations and business models.

“IPTV in its current form has not yet evolved to embrace convergence with open internet content. However, it is now taking off, with many TV devices, including satellite and terrestrial getting connected to the Internet via home networks,” said Ian Valentine, Chief Architect and Founder, Miniweb Interactive. “In these hybrid devices our online, managed platform is powering a truly converged consumer experience, seamlessly mixing broadcast and broadband together. Over the next few years, we will see more and more IP-connected television devices, further increasing the demand for our platform. This is a very exciting time for the industry and we’re thrilled to be one of the driving forces defining the future of TV through making convergence a reality.”
